Day In The Park - Special Event

Coming up this Saturday, September 3rd, is our Special Event QSO party, “the Scratching Post”.

Sponsored by George County A.R.E.S. This special event will be held September 3rd 2022 operating time from 8am to 6pm (setup from 6am to 8am) at the downtown City Park 840 Oak St Lucedale, MS. The event helps bring Ham Radio to the public attention and to celebrate and share some of our town’s special uniqueness. GC ARES will be working voice and FT4/FT8 on both 40meters and 20 meters. This a great time to not only participate and operate but also to come and hang out and enjoy the day. The park has covered table and gazebo areas that we will be operating from, this should give us good exposure to the public for our hobby. You can visit the special call K5K on QRZ.com to view our info for this event.

We will start setting up at 6am and it is crucial we are completed by operating time 8am, so if you can help out in the setup that would be great. I have several bullet points below, please be aware of the areas the bullet points that may concern you. Anyone can operate at this event regardless of the license grade even those not licensed and encourage all to come out, have fun, get some experience and learn. We have plenty of room for operators on HF voice as well as digital so don’t be bashful about operating. When you work at an operation table be assured you will be paired with someone so as not be alone, you can be the contact logger or radio operator, it’s your choice.

As far as refreshments go there will be water, ice, cookies, chips, Gatorade, soft drinks but no formal lunch. There are grills on the premises but you will need to provide your own supplies if you want to bring something to cook. There are also several fast-food restaurants within 5 minutes of the park or pack a few sandwiches to get you through the event.

If weather becomes an issue, we do have a backup location an email and FaceBook message will be sent out if that location is going to be used. If you still want to volunteer or see another need that hasn’t been addressed, please contact General KD4VVZ.
